Minnesota woman buys sheets that can’t go in the washer or dryer; husband perplexed

Apartment dweller Terry Wright, of Stillwater, Minnesota, expressed concern today that his wife of 12 years, Jodi Wright, had purchased two sets of 750 thread count, handmade bamboo sheets, the care tags for which demand hand washing and expressly forbid tumble drying.

“We’re in an apartment in Minnesota, what are we supposed to do with $500 sheets that you can’t machine wash or dry?” asked Terry.

Manufactured in China by the Happy Sleep Sheet Company, the sheets are made of 100% hand-cut bamboo which is meticulously processed on-site into the fine fabric used to create the luxurious bedding.

“Of course I read the tag,” said Jodi. “I was relieved to see they were made of bamboo, an easily renewed resource.”

Weekly hand washing of the sheets has commenced. After a cold water, no detergent hand wash in the bathtub, the sheets were hung over the shower curtain rod where they could be gently squeezed to remove moisture.

“Don’t wring ‘em!” said Mrs. Wright. “Use your head!”

The wet sheets were then draped over the livingroom furniture so they could be gently warmed with a hair dryer, four square inches at a time.

“The heat will ruin them,” Jodi said. “They need to dry on their own.”

Defeated, Terry installed a clothesline across the livingroom, blocking the TV and effectively halving the apartment. The ceiling fan would have helped had it’s use not been forbidden by Jodi because it would “stir up dust.”

“It could take days for these things to dry,” said Terry. “It’s a good thing she bought two sets.”
